Hand Fall was a solo choreographic work commissioned as part of 'Solo Independents' at the Firkin Crane Centre (now Institute for Choreography & Dance) in Cork. Hand Fall was a collaboration with the American photographer Gail Smilthwalter, whose images were projected above Jools as she performed the work. Mel Mercier composed the music for this piece.
"The stunning composure of Hand Fall . . . the work of Jools Gilson-Ellis. . . For something so intimate to become so declamatory on stage takes the dancer into a new relationship with her body and her audience, and for this vision alone Solo Independents would have to be welcomed." 7th March 1998, Mary Leland, The Irish Times |
